Carved Rainbow IRIDESCENT MABE BLISTER PEARL in SHELL
This is NOT directly related to SteveM's study of nautilus pearls or my learning session but was found when I looked for blister pearls out of curiosity generated by the discussion. This is a normal shell and not unique in its natural manufacture but was a cool find.
In researching whether or not to purchase this, I came across this 1934 article that used it heavily as a reference (hopefully there is more to read ). It references a list of octopuses found on the California coast and not one is a name I recognize. Some of the descriptions sound more like squid and one (Polypus himaculatus) may be a bimac. The large octopus described (Polypus hongkongensis) does not sound like the GPO but is a known synonym for Octopus dofleini.
