i just set up my tank now i have to wait for it to cycle what kind of clean up crew can i keep?

We cycle with mollies so the octo has a nice welcome snack. For the cleanup crew, a starfish or some kind of echinoderm. Crabs will be eaten and so will most things.

Yup. The only way to get the octo to not eat them is to keep them in the sump until he is big enough not to view them as food.
