Welcome to TONMO! I'd definitely discourage the idea of an octopus as a gift. Similar to a surprise puppy for the holidays, or a pet bunny on Easter, an octopus as a gift will be hard to get right. Octopuses are particularly more complex and troublesome! In all cases, the recipient has a huge task in front of them to care for their new pet in an enriching way for their entire lives.
It's very hard to keep a live octopus, and it takes deep experience keeping a saltwater tank as a starting place.
So I guess that would be the place to start; is your husband already keeping a tank? Has he expressed interest and knowledge about keeping an octopus?
