Nesis (1987) says:

'Tropical-subtropical cosmopolitan species. In the Atlantic from Long Island to southern Brazil and from southern part of the North Sea to the Cape of Good Hope; common in Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean and Mediterranean Seas, found also near oceanic islands. Whole shelf, sometimes upper part of slope but usually in coastal shallows.'

Nesis, K.N. 1987. Cephalopods of the world (English translation). Tropical Fish Hobbyist (T.F.H.) publications, Neptune City. 352 pp.
