How do you upload a custom avatar

I'm trying to upload and save a custom avatar but I get the message that my avatar is not valid. My image is 100x124 and I've saved it as a jpg. What am I doing wrong?

Hello cephalopod,

Does your file have a .jpg suffix? If not, add one. And, is it within the specified kb allowance? Those two issues have tripped me up in the past.
