Generally speaking, I have no problem with necroposting, assuming the post is otherwise within guidelines (and it's good if the replier acknowledges that they're dredging up an old thread, "but...". Sometimes people "subscribe" to a thread; i.e., they get emails whenever anyone replies. A long forgotten thread can gain new insights from new members (case in point here) and sometimes that can enlighten people who were originally monitoring the thread way back when.
