Best time to get an abdopus or any southern hemisphere octo?

I have a chance to get what seems to be a full grown aculeatus… and I know the best time to get any octo is usually in the fall, right? I’ve always thought this was when they’re at their youngest in stores…

Hmm, I've never heard that, although I'm sure it depends on what part of the world you're in!

My lfs has this tiny prickly looking one that only came in as octopus where as dwarves are usually labeled pacific brown which is why I don’t bother with those! I see prickly and hope for abdopus lol… my camera wouldn’t let me video with the flash on So I could only get these pics… it was hiding between the two pipes when I walked up so someone moved one for me so I could try to id him. He’s $70 whereas “pacific browns” are usually $40ish

What’s the best time of year to get one? I thought around like spring… but I guess it depends on the species
