These sperm whales have learned to eat sablefish caught on commercial longlines.

Could this mean they are eating fewer Architeuthis?

Could it be that Architeuthis is eating the sablefish, and the whales are after the squid? I note that the whales are not actually seen eating fish off the lines, merely loitering near the lines, hungrily... :mrgreen:
 
.... I have pictures of sperm whales stealing fish and squid from lines ..... but I'm not allowed to post them :cry:

It is pretty amazing stuff!

I wouldn't think the S.W. jaw is capable of such dexterity?
