For anyone who "happens" to be down in Southern NZ on the 16th May, we're having an open day at the Portobello Marine Laboratory and Aquarium. Starting from 12 noon. Entry is free. There will be displays throughout the lab (Mine is "Armed and Dangerous? Squid Research in Otago"!!!!) and also in the Aquarium. Anyone in the vicinity do come on over!

I'm actually headed your way later this year, around October. Are you usually open to the public, or am I going to have to cross off 'ceph-watching' from my list of NZ holiday activities?

gloomer, yep we're open every day (except Christmas day) from noon to 4.30. We also run a guided "behind the scenes" type tour at 10.30 am. PM me nearer the time and if I'm still here I could maybe show you round the lab.
