An encounter with a femal blanket octopus which immediately brings back to mind a "mystery creature" which elicited a fair amount of discussion several ages back, in this very forum, as towards its identity. The "bobbing creature with headschlong" caused quite a stir, back then, this appears to be more proof of air, trapped inside the mantle cavity as a feature of this surface hugging behavior...

Ooh, I missed this thread, @OB (but I had indeed seen that great footage). Here's the original thread in question; I was looking at it recently... honestly, still doesn't seem all that conclusive to me!

The one thing that's been bugging me horrably since the start of reading this thread, there is an obvious smooth even edge around the striped section of this wee beastie, and to add to that there's roughy 10% of it's body length to put it's arms, if it is a Tremoctopus then can it do that and...
