Bathyteuthis

Bathyteuthis is the only genus of the family Bathyteuthidae. It contains 3 species. These deep-sea squid are found throughout the worlds oceans, between depths of around 700-2000 m.

Here is a paper by Clyde Roper from 1968, outlineing two new species or bathyteuthis.
Both of the species outlined in this paper are still considered valid today.

I find bathyteuthis really fascinating to watch. I'm not sure why. It's exciting that every year we seem to get a few more recorded sightings of them.
