Although researchers know that Sperm Whales feed on squid, there is some doubt whether they eat Giant Squid.

there is?

Anyway, sounds like the found a big beak... maybe it's been eating your Moroteuthis, Kat!

Being a female whale, and not a particularly big one, the 'hand-sized' beak referred to is unlikely to be that of Mesonychoteuthis, as the female doesn't venture into Antarctic waters. Although not a lot can be made of the photo of beaks in the bin (not the most helpful of photos), the largest beaks therein look like uppers rather than lowers (which are larger anyway), and they don't look particularly large. They also look rather fresh. Likely candidates are Dosidicus, Moroteuthis 'robusta' and Galiteuthis, and of course 1 or 2 Architeuthis.

I don't know where the reporter got his/her facts from .... there is some doubt that sperm whales eat Architeuthis? Heavens. That's just dumb!
