Just got this little lovely a few days ago and decided to start a journal
. Not sure if it's a boy or a girl yet, or really even much about this little one other than it was labeled as a prickly octopus and is from a shop in California. Its mantel is around an inch and 1/2 ( maybe a little bigger) with shorter, pudgy-looking (when at rest) arms that are between 4 to 5 inches (when stretched out) and changes into the most beautiful shades of deep velvety red and almost dark pumpkin orange. It also gets two patches of reflective, pearlescent white-teal right over each eye, but this only seems to happen when it's color is dark (or it's only noticeable when it's dark) and little white patches and "prickles" all over its body when changing colors. Initially I assumed it was a dwarf (because that seems to be what I usually get with the exception of two CROs) but after sharing some pictures on here for some help with identifying the species it was suggested it may be some sort of Macropus. Which would be very interesting for me as I've never had the opportunity to own one
. On top of the deep shades of red (which is why the suggestion of macropus got brought up) it also so far seems to keep a schedule similar to what I've heard of for Macropuses with really only being out and about very late at night. I did very briefly see it twice very early in the morning after turning on the primary light in my tank but I think that was simply because the sudden brighter light caught its attention and it was curious to see what was going on. As far as personality goes so far it seems very gentle, not very easily startled yet, and as funny this may sound, almost with a little bit of an attitude - a little haughty and like I'm beneath it haha. I'm hoping to be able to figure how to upload videos on here and to get more pictures to upload soon.
