I photographed this female Octopus chierchiae in Panama in 1988. Even though I and others have search several times since then along the Mexican, Costa Riciean and Panamanian Pacific coast, I know of no one who has seen one since. This is a small species, mantle length around 4 cm, and is one of the very few octopus where females can lay multiple clutches of eggs over over a period of several months. If you happen to see one, I would be very interested in knowing about it.
