Hi everyone!

We’ve been thinking about this for a while, and decided that the time was right to start up a forum on the goings on in AUT’s Lab for Cephalopod Ecology & Systematics (ALCES). Some of the TONMO community already know us, but for those who don’t, we are a group of researchers focusing mostly on deep-sea squid and various aspects of their biology, taxonomy, ecology, and systematics. Some of our current members include TONMO users @GPO87 and @Heather Braid, and of course the lab was started by @Steve O'Shea.

We are based in Auckland, New Zealand, and some of our work focuses on the South Pacific region but other projects have a wider scope. When we're lucky, we also get to examine specimens of the very largest cephalopods, the giant squid (Architeuthis dux) and the colossal squid (Mesonychoteuthis hamiltoni). On this forum we thought we’d share some of these adventures with the TONMO community and start some discussions around current happenings in teuthology in our corner of the world!

You can find videos of some of our past activities under the links below. You can also find our official website here, and on Twitter we are @ALCESOnline.

Let's have some adventures!
