nanocon successful

For once, we have super action figure poses instead of just people drinking beer at a nanocon!

Esquid plays cricket, while Monty tries not to get beaned by the cricket ball, or the golden snitch, or whatever it's called:

Erin with a sword on her head:

Er, wait, *this* one is Erin with a sword on her head:

In a fit of apathy, I didn't get any pictures of Erin's aquaculture facility, or the tanks she takes care of at school and at home. But I did see them. And Erin and her husband Morgan (both great people!) introduced me to "Ricochet Robots," which is an addictive board game.

All in all, a good time, and worth the drive. The state of one of Erin & Morgan's neighbors' siding would have made you say "My siding isn't as bad as it could have been," Dan, so it's a shame you didn't get to come up. I hope you got the project done, in any case...

Philadelphia, NYC and Boston nanocons coming up, beerdrinking pics to be expected!

Any TONMO'ers in St. Paul or New Orleans?

Erin looks a bit more graceful than you do, Monty.

That, and I had my back arched which stuck my belly out. That's my excuse for looking extra pot-bellied, and I'm stickin' to it.

That's a really heavy sword: too heavy to do Tai Chi Dao with.

Also, you can see Erin's cat behind me and her tank behind her, if you look carefully.

In your defense about not taking tank pics, you were being distracted by a Dane with different colored LED's.

Oooh, I see a light! It's so pretty!

Actually, I don't even have that excuse, 'cause they weren't actually hooked up to a power supply. Or an anglerfish.

Sorry you missed the tank shots but you would not have heard the end of it without the swords! Video next time :cephdevil:

Monty, why is your sword still in the sheath while Erin's is actually dangerous?

It's not, actually. The sheath is thick and black. We were wondering why it showed up looking gold for me but silver for Erin, too. It normally looks silver... my only guess is that, since we just traded the camera and sword, that there was some ambient light in one direction that was missing in the other.

You may get you wish. I'm supposed to dance at a belly/drag-o-ween costume party at the beginning of November. The bond girl idea I was working on isn't comming together, so I may just do a sword piece. hmm... bond girl w/sword may be the way to go...

oh no, James Bond girl. I was thinking of using the first of the end credits songs from Casino Royal. It's a Halloween party so it's going to be a lot of non-traditional/fun stuff, I think one of my friends is doing the barbie girl song.

Philly: check! The venues were:

Monk's Café - The Soul of Belgium in the Heart of Philadelphia

Beer drinking, cigar smoking pics to come, I'm sure, once OB plugs back in. Anyone who can hitch a ride on the OB nanocon train should definitely do so. You will not be disappointed. Looking forward to the next one.

Yes, fun indeedy! It was great finally to get to meet the Big Guy in Philly, who gave us this wonderful forum to start with.

Tony and I were joined by Nonmo'ers Audrey and Marcel, who, after the initial shock of through our conversations getting into the minds of that weird class of vertebrates called Cephalopodophilae, started to appreciate our squiddy conversations more and more.

The evening progressed quite philosophically, touching not only on devilish creatures from the abyss and the giant Lusca, life, love, death and the universe at large, but also on an even more fascinating and all encompassing topic: beer. Here we find our esteemed kahuna, savouring a brutal Belgian, capable of knocking out a fully grown South Carolinian Armwrestler in just three sips, the dreaded Delirium Tremens... Tremble, mortals.....

Unperturbed, we however progressed to the aforementioned Mahogany on Walnut, to indulge in an unsuspected bonus.

I had not smoked a finely built longfiller since celebrating with Steve wrapping up our colossal biometrics frenzy and subsequent fixing. Call me the Count of Montecristo

Let's say this evening started a trend, in which I asked people to take pictures, and me finding out that directed autofocus is a long lost skill in the age of point and shoots.... In this picture, however, I found the focus to be quite exemplary and correct

In all, we had a great evening, hopefully the first of many.

Alas, poor (New) York, we were not able to get a NYC crew together due to a series of unmatched agendas. I did run into some cephiness, however. In one of my haunts in the East Vilage, DBA, the bathroom was adorned by this little beasty...

Head held high, I then progressed further up the Acela to reach Boston, home of NEAQ and Clem. No chowder that evening, for another recurrent theme was rearing its lovely head...

If Delirium Tremens is Beelzebub's most wicked brew, then Orval must surely be its heavenly counterpart. Brewed by Monks, it got Adam and myself in the mood for thoughtful yet witty conversation fast enough. Then, however, our eyes were drawn to the television behind the bar, showing the Sawk's humilliation by the Tampa Rays, as illustrated here by our distorted looks of horror (third inning), fitting the out of focus paradigm well.

All the beer at

couldn't save us then, so a change of scene was in order. Off to stuff ourselves on ribs and brisket, we went across the road and I have to admit, it turned out very well indeed. We had a great time, just going over all kinds of stuff, comparing Architeuthis' gill structure to that of Mesonychoteuthis and coming to the conclusion that shorter gills might counterintuitively actually suggest a higher metabolic rate. That, and cars, sex and our handicaps, obviously.

Happy to have filled our stomachs after having witnessed such disastrous defeat and having renewed a wonderful friendship, I left, a happy Tonmo camper.

Alright then, here's one more out of focus pic to remind me of a great night in Bawston.

We had a blast

Looking forward to the next occasion, and most certainly to TONMOCON III!

Urrrr... So I posted a lengthy contribution with compromising photos, and I got this message it will have to be looked at by the mighty moderator prior to being deemed acceptable for placement... Is it now lost in cyberspace, or will I still be saved from retyping?
