[Octopus]: Mac (a bimac journal)

Feeding video, with a couple of observations:
1. Mac is huge now! Henceforth Big Mac (sorry...)
2. This was meant as a puzzle to see if he could unscrew the top -- he takes the more direct route and just pulls it straight off, threads be damned. Pretty funny!

Amazing!

Porch Engineering.jpg

While octo was out and about, I took a look at his "back porch", and I must say I'm impressed with the structural engineering he's done on the entrance to his cave! Especially that oyster shell at the far end of the entrance, which is acting as a nice retaining wall. Nice job, Mac!

Also noticeable is a live littleneck clam on the right, next to the oyster shell. I had assumed it was an empty clam shell, but as I was shooting this photo I was surprised to see it start to move around. Before long it had burrowed halfway into the sand bed.

Does anyone know anything about littleneck clams? Is it going to die under the sand and pollute the tank, or should I just let octo find it and eventually eat it?

It's probably a clue that I can lay back on the feeding, since he normally eats clams as soon as I drop them in.

I found this thread suggesting they're OK:
