Meet the newest octopus at Harbor WildWatch. Her name is Roomba and she is a tiny red octopus. She is young and hopefully that will translate to our having her for a long time, maybe even a year!
Once she shows signs of senescence we will release her at her site of collection (with applicable transfer permit from WDFW of course)
Her name comes from her habit of creeping along with all her arms underneath her, rather than sprawling. I’ve only seen her extend her arms a few times.
She’s eating live mussels readily (and we have a dock to collect from daily) and took a bite of frozen mussel today too.
For now she’s in a tiny critter keeper within a larger 65 gallon tank that’s been set up for a few years.
It’s heavily planted with lots of local seaweeds and eelgrass.
