Just joined the site, surprised I have not joined sooner as I am pretty obsessed with octopuses and cephalopods of all kinds. On a recent trip I found a specimen that I cannot identify. Spotted this fellow close to shore on the Sea of Cortez in Baja C.S. This region is know for Humboldt squid, but this specimen did not have the body shape or fins like a squid so I think it is an octopus species. It also had two small holes on the upper part of the body, like nostrils slightly visible in image. Was using a siphon to jet around , but was struggling to jet away and kept it's arms curled up tight to the body. Unfortunately this little fellow was struggling and was almost washed up on the shoreline so I don't think it supposed to be out during this time of day or this close to shore.
