Definitely looks like a rejected mating attempt but I don't know if the cuttle even knows that is what the squid is trying to do since cuttles mate in and entirely different position. Cuttlefish mate beak to beak but now I am curious about what would happen if it tried mating with an octopus. My guess is the squid would get eaten.

I've never heard of this happening before, but it doesn't surprise me though. It was fascinating to watch the squid try and mate though. And I agree, D. I definitely think that if a squid tried it on with an octopus, it would end up as dinner! haha. I guess cuttlefish are much more tolerant.
