I’ve been under the impression: bimaculoides=large egg
vs.
bimaculatus=small egg

Ps
Tomh, could you let us know what yours end up being (...loides vs ...latus)?

Yes, the. O. bimaculoides lays large eggs, while the bimaculatus’ eggs are small.

Although their depth may sometimes overlap, generally the O. bimaculatus is found in deeper water.

You can tell the difference between the two by comparing the ocellus. See my article O. bimaculoides Care Sheet for an illustration of a bimaculoides ring.

Although you may encounter the O. bimaculatus while diving, it is very unusual for them to be kept in home aquariums or be available in aquarium stores.
